Assumption’s GreekFest
Thursday, August 19 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.; - Grand Opening at 6:30 p.m., Friday, August 20 from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.; Saturday, August 21 from 11 a.m. to midnight; and Sunday, August 22 from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. with a Raffle drawing at 8:30 p.m. Assumption Greek Orthodox Church is located at 21800 Marter Rd in the communities of Grosse Pointe Woods and St. Clair Shores. If you’re looking for something fun to do with your entire family, attend Assumption’s GreekFest! It’s close to home and it’s a great venue for people of all ages to get out and enjoy good Greek food, entertainment, and culture. Kids will have a ball with activities and games planned for them.Proceeds from the Festival will benefit programs for the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church and Cultural Center, and the Assumption Nursery School. Admission is $2 per person and children 12 and under free. On Friday it’s “Family Day” and admission is free from noon to 4 p.m. Free parking and shuttle service available for everyone’s convenience. MUSICAL FUNDRAISER FOR LACASA
Saturday, August 21, 2010 at The Well Church in Brighton, beginning at 8:00 pm.
This concert, presented by LAMOCU Productions, is part of their monthly Performances at The Well concert series. Local musicians are showcased each month, and proceeds from the event benefit designated non-profit organizations. Alan Smith will be singing songs of life, love, laughter, loss and everyday miracles. He is a bit of a troubadour whose songs tell a story. There will be auction items, a 50/50 raffle and even Tony’s Dogs! It will be a great night to benefit a great cause. LACASA is the only organization in Livingston County to provide shelter and comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.

Saving Lives Motorcycle Rally
Saturday August 21 Detroit to Auburn Hills Rally Hundreds of motorcyclists will gather on Saturday, August 21 for the 2nd Annual “Saving Lives Motorcycle Rally and Ringo Ride” promoting driver and rider safety awareness and accident prevention. The police escorted, organized ride will start at Steve’s Soul Food (1440 Franklin, Detroit) at 10 a.m., with kickstands up promptly at 11 a.m., and arrive at Big Buck Brewery (2550 Takata) in Auburn Hills around noon for the rally. The rally runs from noon to 6 p.m. and features extreme sports celebrity Jason Britton and Team No Limit. who will perform three motorcycle stunt shows, in addition to posing for photographs and signing autographs.

CHILDREN’S HEALTH & SAFETY AWARENESS DAY
Saturday, August 21 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm Livonia at 36400 5 Mile Rd Bright Side Dental in partnership with St. Mary Mercy & Meijer will host a children’s health and safety awareness day.
Parents will receive a free child identification kit, provided by the Masonic Lodge. This kit includes fingerprints, a photo, teeth impressions, and a video and voice recording of their child.Children’s activities include finger painting, story telling and games. Parents will have the opportunity for free car seat safety checks and receive free dental hygiene products and information for their children. Meijer will be providing nutrition tips and healthy recipes.

Operation Injured Soldier – Fishing Event

The Detroit Yacht Club has teamed up with Michigan Ontario Musky Club and “Operation Injured Soldier” to host a Musky Fishing day for “our” Injured Soldiers from Selfridge Air Base. Through corporate sponsorship and individual donations, these fishing trips are provided at no cost to the soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sponsorships to offset expenses are available in Gold for $750, Silver $500, and Bronze $250. People’s Arts Festival

Betsie Valley 5K, 10K and Half Marathon
