Michigan at Risk "Whatever Happened to Organized Labor?"
The program explores the beginning of the decline which began with labor union leaders becoming "fat and sassy" and losing their way. As times and the labor landscape changed, union leadership and their vision didn't. Newly negotiated contracts didn't adapt to the times and the union's leverage and impact lessened.
It will also look at the rise of successful new unions like service employee and public sector unions (what some call "bedpan unions"). These unions got back to the essence and roots of the labor movement: representation of the people most in need.
